https://youtube/watch?v=9zACEJdFOpA A dear friend passed away today. His name was Al Spencer. Al was only in his mid-40s when he died. About two years ago, Al was diagnosed with an advanced stage of cancer that had infected multiple organs in his abdomen. He fought strong and hard for the past two years. However, today he breathed his last breath. Al leaves behind his wife, a three year old daughter and two step-sons (who he loved as his own). As I near the birth of my own child, I can only imagine the emotional pain he lived through during his final days. It must have been unbearable when he knew the end was near and he looked into his daughter’s eyes, knowing his time with her was limited. I read his wife Allisons Facebook post a few weeks back, and she mentioned how Al would regularly journal to his daughter. This inspired me to start a journal to my own unborn daughter. After all, none of our tomorrows are guaranteed. I spent most of my time with Al when I was in high school and college. He was one of the most positive people you would ever meet, and would always make you laugh. He had a verbal delivery that was unique, and could make the most mundane line super funny. In more recent time, despite living in proximity to him, we didnt connect much. However, when we did, he always had a smile on his face. In fact, the last time I saw him in March, he was wearing a surgeon’s mask, in an effort to lower his risk of infection, but you could still see that big smile peeking through the corners of the mask. Long live the great Al Spencer!
