Yesterdays film and todays film will be up back to back tonight so you can see what we had then, and what we have now. Now then, of course, well be starting with yesterdays film. One of the subjects that people talk about during the first week of school is history, and Im sure theres plenty of people, especially teachers (one being my father) that can agree on that. So, heres a film about history next. Third for this week was Pocahontas. This is a favorite of mine, but theres definitely people I know who dont agree, and yeah, its sort of a personal preference to me, and to be straightforward, theyre obvious flaws that I do still see in here, but well talk about that in a minute. Anyway, just like Aladdin, the colors are perfect. Whoever did the art direction for this film really knew what they were doing here. The songs are good, as they are Alan Menken songs, and hes usually good at delivering those kinds of things. I like the story, too Its a unique story, that we never expected Disney to do. They normally base their stories off of fairy tales, but not in here. This ones actually based on a real live event that happened, and a real person who actually walked the earth. So, its told well, but where does it fall flat? Well, it sometimes it can get a little preachy, and I think we all can see that. On top of that, I think the biggest problem ever in this film is the villain. GOOD GOD, whenever I think of the boring stereotypical greedy villain, this is usually who I think of! Hes a gold digging idiot looking for money, and I really hate villains like that, its not a strong enough motivation. Hes such an obvious one dimensional villain, that it really boggles the whole thing down. Aside from that, this is one of my favorites. I know it has problems, but I dont care, I love it the way it is. You can smack me all you want, but I think of this as a favorite of mine, any day. Ill be back with the film for today soon.
