https://youtube/watch?v=QcNCI3NG2G8 Today orthodox priesthood in USSR like to claim that Communist Party persecuted them for their religious beliefs especially in the 1920s and 1930s. This is largely untrue, during the civil war 99% of priests were executed or imprisoned for aiding and abetting the soldiers of the White Army not for their religious beliefs. What they also dislike to remember is how thousands of them willingly disrobed after in 1958 churches were prohibited from making a profit on religious items they sell (which was generally against the law in a state-run economy with small exceptions) and after they were required to pay taxes on the buildings and the land. Lack of state finance and existence on charity funding alone has ruined the Orthodox Church more than any claimed Bolshevik repressions LOL :-) State sponsorship of the Orthodox Church and the Illegal and unlawful Reclamation Laws are ruining Russia. Church is separate from State in Russia in word only. The current government actively supports the Churchs practices and ideology and violates the rights of its non-religious citizens.
