In a game organized according to a Howell movement, every pair gets to play opposite every other pair and play every board, without repetition of boards or opponents. Howell movements are related to Galois fields. Before he decided to free music from its tonal structure, Arnold Schoenberg studied everything he could find about harmony, which he collected into a book, titled Theory of Harmony. It is ironic that Schoenbergs name is remembered in connection with atonal music, which no one listens to, but his book on tonal music is an excellent resource and has remained in print for one hundred years. In this performance, the music would indeed have practically no redeeming quality, if it were not for the fact that it hits every note. As a result, it is a showcase for the Yamaha grand on which it is performed, which is a fabulous instrument. Every note can be heard clearly and it sounds wonderful!
