i mentioned this earlier but wanted to elaborate if thats ok. I was introduced to Robin Williams with Mork and Mindy as a kid. I was hooked. Then my parents let me watch Live At The Met..probably at a younger age then i should have. I was floored by how insane and funny he was and was inspired. However, this movie, The Fisher King touched me at a much later age. In fact, i did my favorite paper/thesis of all time in a great English literature/history class i took in college. The assignment was to take a modern movie that dealt with a historical relic/event at its core. I chose this film and its take on the search for the Holy Grail. It is a WILD movie that delves into fantasy but with a center based in grim reality. Directed by Terry Gilliam..you shouldnt be surprised. Jeff Bridges and the cast are fantastic and the movie is at times hilarious and also tragic and it is Robin Williams who embodies both those spirits the most and makes the movie imo. This clip below is actually one of his more reserved moments in the film but maybe his best. Its the story of The Fisher King and its sweet, poignant and jeez..just takes on a lot more resonance now. I think youll appreciate the message alone below, even out of context from the movie (Its only a couple of mins) Its universal. But i also say if you havent seen the movie, to give it a shot. I happen to think its BRILLIANT but even if you do not, I think you will at least be intrigued by its style and message. Thanks.
