i was pleasantly surprised by the artistic elegance of woody allan’s “blue jasmine”. in the first minutes of the film, it became evident woody was inspired by and created a marriage between Tennessee Williams, "a streetcar named desire" and the real life bernie madoff american tragedy. but, as the picture progressed, i was overwhelmed by the superb acting of all the players, even Andrew dice clay-who few can stand-gives an “a” class performance. Cate Blanchett will receive a nomination and most likely an oscar for her part as jasmine french, aka blanche dubois from street car. Alec Baldwin plays a combo of madoff and his son who died for the sins of the father. It is amazing how woody can bring out such memorable performances from actors by giving them little direction but plenty of freedom to give the best performances they can give. go see it, it is so much better than the mindless violent want-a-be crap that clogs american cinema. jasmine may not get your adrenaline up but it will play a nice melody with your emotions.
