This just kills me! People think they are so smart, you never get away with anything when it comes to insurance. Read this painful story. A new client came into my office last summer and purchased a new auto policy with our agency. When reviewing the application a RED LIGHT WENT OFF 3 vehicles and only 1 driver, well this smells fishy. I inquired and the woman told me There are no other licensed operators in the house and no one but her drives the cars. I went on in detail explaining that if there was an accident the insurance coverage would be denied if the operator was found to be a house hold member or uses the car on a regular basis even if living in another residence. Well she out smarted me and saved maybe $2000. last weekend her 17 year old daughter was driving the 2014 Chevy and totaled the car, the daughter was not a listed operator and guess what happened? No coverage! The next 4 years she will be paying $456.00 per month for that totaled car ( that she no longer has) I am sure she regrets her decision. I am certain that she wishes she could go back in time be truthful pay the extra $188. per month. What a costly mistake. The kicker is she will bad mouth that insurance company for the next 20 years and never take responsibility for her bad choice. Pick you battles insurance companies a very smart. If you would like more information please call me 781-340-1555. If you would like to read the MA auto policy showing this please see below We will not pay for a collision loss for an accident which occurs while your auto is being operated by a household member who is not listed as an operator on Optional Insurance of this policy. Payment is withheld when the household member, if listed, would require the payment of additional premium on this policy because: 1. the household member would be classified as an inexperienced operator, or 2. more points would be assigned under a merit rating plan. You must notify us within 60 days after a person who will operate your auto becomes a household member, if that person was not a household member on the effective date of your policy. In the same manner, you must notify us if a household member, who will operate your auto, becomes a licensed operator.
