#i_fm_The_Internet_Radio_sports Out of the Champions League and who knows when United will be back? David Moyes has admitted that Wayne Rooneys fitness was not up to standard as Manchester United were knocked out of the Champions League quarter-finals by Bayern Munich. United suffered a 4-2 aggregate defeat to Bayern after Moyes had decided to take a gamble by fielding Rooney after he had a painkilling injection in his left foot. Rooney missed a glorious chance to score with the game poised at 1-1 - and boss Moyes revealed that the injection had affected his shooting and so Killing Manchester Uniteds hopes of redeeming a poor season with a surprise Champions League semi-final place were ended as holders Bayern Munich fought back to record a dominant second- leg win With United already out of the Premier League title race, FA Cup and League Cup, the Champions League had been Moyess final chance to redeem what has been a hugely disappointing season for the 2012-13 league champions. Patrice Evra rifled in But Mario Mandzukic nodded in a swift equaliser before Thomas Mullers scuffed finish put Bayern ahead. Arjen Robben then wrapped up the 4-2 aggregate win with a fine solo goal. Atletico Madrid knocked Spanish rivals Barcelona out of the Champions League as Kokes early goal gave them a 2-1 aggregate win over the Catalan giants. The midfielders close-range shot put the Spanish league leaders into the semi-finals following the 1-1 draw in Barcelona last week. Hosts Atletico struck the woodwork three times in the opening 20 minutes. The result puts Atletico into the last four of the competition for the first time since 1974, and with Diego Simeones side heading La Liga by a point from Barcelona with six games remaining, a domestic and European double is a distinct possibility. Barcelona counterpart Gerardo Martino, by contrast, must contemplate the fact that his side have become the first Barca team to fail to reach the semi-finals of the Champions League since 2007. Paulo Bento will remain as Portugal coach until the end of Euro 2016 after agreeing a two-year extension to his contract. The 44-year-old Portuguese was appointed in 2010 and his original deal was to expire this July. Bento led Portugal to the semi-finals of Euro 2012, where they lost to eventual winners Spain, and also guided them to this summers World Cup. Portugal will play Germany, the United States and Ghana in Group G at this summers tournament in Brazil. Rory McIlroy and Phil Mickelson will head the field in Tiger Woodss absence when the 78th Masters gets under way at the Augusta National on Thursday. Woods is missing after having back surgery, but the world number one has not won at Augusta since 2005 and the tournament is considered wide open. Northern Irelands McIlroy is the bookmakers favourite to clinch a first Masters Green Jacket and third major. Adam Scott bids to become the fourth player to win back- to-back titles. American left-hander Mickelson is the crowd favourite and can join Arnold Palmer and Woods on four Green Jackets, 10 years after winning his first. Defending champion Scott is number two in the world and can overhaul Woods in the rankings with a two-way tie for third or better. A second major title this week would make the Australian the fourth player to achieve back-to-back Masters wins after Woods in 2001/2002, Nick Faldo in 1989/1990 and Nicklaus in 1965/1966.
