if youre not familiar with Franklins BBQ in Austin - the brisket - TopicsExpress

if youre not familiar with Franklins BBQ in Austin - the brisket there has been ranked the best in the country, and the lines regularly run 2-4 hours on any given day of the week. during Obamas visit to Austin this week, he made a surprise stop at Franklins to try some of the famous Q - the issue many have with the stop is that he cut the (in)famous line. Franklins owner, Aaron Franklin, said that Obama is the first person to ever do so - including all of the other famous people who have visited...and several Austinites are not terribly happy about it. now i understand for sake of security that we cant have the President standing in a line in a public location for 2-3 hours...but there are ways he could have gone about it that might not have angered the natives so much. according the the Austin American Statesman Obama said, I know this is a long line. I feel real bad, but – Im gonna cut. maybe its just me, but if he felt really bad about cutting, he wouldnt have. instead - he could have (a) placed an order ahead of time, as pre-order pickup is allowed to skip the line with no fuss, or (b) im sure he could have arranged to have Franklins cater some of their bbq at one of his meetings, fundraisers or even meet Airforce One on the tarmac with a massive to-go. just my thoughts... :) austin.eater/archives/2014/07/10/obama-cut-the-franklin-barbecue-line-people-have-feelings.php
