ill answer one of the questions right now, because my children are busy and i can - yay! its a response to a question in the my last post about that huge word orphan: i really dont think theres a right/wrong way. for me, its about HOW we use the word orphan. its a real word and a word that describes part of a childs story, but i think its important to be so, so careful to make sure we dont use it to DEFINE someone in order to get others to feel badly or to ask people to help. can we talk about kids who are in need of love and safety and belonging without categorizing them? or using words that would define them? maybe its about leveling the field - we ALL need these things, but children who have lost one or both parents just happen to have stories that created these longings really early. we dont need to rescue or save them - that puts us in a position of power and im not an advocate for positions of power. but i am an advocate for sharing our power, sharing our privilege, sharing our home, sharing our love. and we get to do that - for everyone. as you probably heard me say before, we need your love, not because we werent loved, but because were lovable. when we promote vulnerable people of any age with forlorn and helpless and powerless pictures, i think it can easily and naturally send a message of THEY need us. my prayer is that we would all begin awakening to the truth that WE NEED ONE ANOTHER. ahhhh - hope thats helpful.
