SENATOR BENJAMIN UWAJUMOGU (UPCLOSE & PERSONAL, A CLASSMATE APPRAISAL) It was not until spring of 1975 that a fine, humble young man was introduced to me as my classmate in the person of Benjamin Chukwuemeka Uwajumogu. We exchanged pleasantries that would shape my life as a pioneer student of Uboma Secondary school, Ikperejere in Etiti Local Government Area of Imo State. His Dad (late Chief Benjamin Uwajumogu Sr) had brought him to the school on the opening day of the school for the usual meet and greet with registration. Our late Principal ( Chief Udumaga) was pleased to meet the first pioneers of his school, alongside his wife who was our French instructor then. There is no gainsaying the fact that my first impression of this young man showed a leader, a humble being and a humanist. Events will unfold during our stint at Uboma that would give Benjamin Uwajumogu the nick name the big Daddy of USSIE. He was young with a big heart. He will lend to the poor at USSIE, he will share his food, he will cry when others are crying. He will disappear to Umuahia to reload his war chest because his funds were depleted from lending to people. He can never say no to anyone in need which has been his problem to this day, an excellent attitude but misconstrued by many who take his kindness to weakness. His parents had it all, from CHIDINMA TRANSPORTION BUSINESS, NAMED AFTER THEIR BEAUTIFUL DAUGHTER AND THEIR FIRST TO UWAJUMOGU GROUP OF COMAPNIES, TO EASTERN COMFORT HOTEL ETC. HIS PARENTS WERE BLESSED ALL ROUND but they also knew that the act of giving for which they were known had been transferred to their children. ( Their mantra was: Never see anyone poor or cry for help) Needless to say that my association with this young man along with Chinedum Nwajiuba, the current Prof. Nwajiuba of IMSU was an eye opener. Even here in the United States, I am constantly reminiscing my period with this awesome human being. The world would be a better place if we have many Benjamins. RT. HON. BENJAMIN UWAJUMOGU IS A LEADER WITH A VISION, HE POSSESS AN ASTUTE LEADERSHIP SKILLS THAT WOULD TRANSFORM OKIGWE SENATORIAL ZONE COME 2015. Many a man would dream big of the future and articulate them with great inspiration but Uwajumogu is a visionary leader who is good with actions as well as words and so can bring his vision to bear in Okigwe senatorial zone.Uwajumogu is ready to give Okigwe zone real leadership, not what we have right now, a mockery plaque of Okigwe zone is displayed in the senate as I write, and he will give that leadership with heartfelt commitment. The beauty of his leadership even as the speaker is that he creates specific achievable goals, initiates actions and calls for the participation of others. Ihitte/Uboma youths Empowerment will testify to this. Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu sees the big picture and thinks strategically. He recently told his people that he has fulfilled his promise to his constituency. I was moved by tears of joy at the onset of that speech. He never promised the Ihitte/Uboma Constituents that he will take them to the moon or the kind of promises our current senator made to us when he was running. He told us that there would be Armageddon when he became a senator and look at what we got, a sleeping senator in Abuja while my zone is never remembered in the scheme of things. For what he has done within a short period in the IMHA, the progressives, the Elders, the Traditional rulers, eminent sons and daughters, movers and shakers of Okigwe Extract has endorsed and pitched tent with him.Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu is not going to the Red Chamber as a rookie who would be wasting Okigwes time finding his way and acquainting self with the senate procedure but as seasoned unabashed politician of the 21st century who would hit the ground running from the first day of swearing ceremony. He has the connections and network that would catapult Okigwe zone to the apex/zenith of its journey. OKIGWE ZONE IS GOING THROUGH A MENTAL ANGUISH. Okigwe zone would from next year begin to compete with Orlu zone in terms of infrastructural development. Every nook and crannies of Okigwe zone needs development now so that posterity will be kind to our generation. This is the rational behind lending my voice and every fiber of my being to the Uwajumogu cause and project. The elders of Okigwe, the traditional rulers, APC youths organization, even PDP members got it right when they supported his candidacy. He is the man to bring succor to his zone and the gate of hell will not prevent that aspiration. Let all hands, heads and bodies support our ebullient son first, humble and approachable politician, Rt. Hon. Chukwuemeka Uwajumogu to the Red Chamber come 2015. He will not fail us as he has performed credibly well. He will lift us from abject poverty. History will vindicate us within the first 12 months of his representation.
