ive been sleeping freakin awesomely the past few nights. found a nice spot on a pier over a small pond with clear cool night air and lawn sprinklers making an oh so pleasant sound through the bedding down hour of the evening. funny thing about this particular spot though, is that it is in a city park with 2 roving park rangers coming on shift around 6am... an hour after the imposed curfew of 10pm-5am. dudes are really nice and respectful, but still trying to enforce the insanity. one morning they woke me up just after 6 and told me that i could not be sleeping where i was and that i had to move on... i didnt think about it until after i woke up a little later that day, but, what is illegal about sleeping in a park? yesterday, they saw me continuing to repair my trailer wheel. with my dremel tool broken and trashed, ive had to default to using my manual handheld precision drill... not a handcrank drill, but a small handheld pen style drill. one rotation for every one twist of the wrist. i spent all day yesterday drilling two 1/8" diameter holes through about a half inch thick aluminum hubshell. anyway, they asked me how i was doing and if i needed any help, as i am handdrilling aluminum. i said nope, im doing ok, ive got everything i need to do good work. and im enjoying the day and the handworkout. they went on their way. this morning they showed up at my temporary, 5 minute rollout... 5 minute rollup "campspot" and told me, in as nice as a way they could, that i cannot sleep there during curfew or i will be subject to a 500$ fine, and suggested that i go to a legitimate campsite outside of town where i will can pay and be "safe" and be "legal". i told them, that i understand that there are hundreds of disrespectful homeless people in austin trashing the place and taking advantage of resources, and i also told them that if the city government and the people of austin feel that me being here is interrupting their peaceful environment and does not appreciate my efforts here enough to fine me 500$, then i would just leave town... they were already walking away before i finished my sentence.
