just a note before I forget, & praying for Melanie Wheeler, old - TopicsExpress

just a note before I forget, & praying for Melanie Wheeler, old friend from junior high & Chi-Hi... but thought Id pass this on, as it is relevant, & people need to stop & think about these. A lady has made an amazing impression upon us here, in our stay in Chicago, the beautiful windy city. the hotel has nearly all Chinese & Indian (in the recent case someone from Bhutan above India), & as always cook staff is Mexican, & African American, & Chinese also, a very friendly old man this morning, got some egg burritos for my sweetie who is sick even tho I was late to breakfast . A wonderful cool guy who is African American, & proudly, when I mentioned the absolutely hands down friendliest woman who oversees breakfasts here, who is from BOSNIA. Bosnia, as some may remember, is a nation which exists due to a 1990s effort of Old Europe (mainly Germany) to create a separate nation from Yugoslavia & Serbia, in defiance of international laws against foreign nations invading & separating out parts of other nations, which Germany did, by separating out Croatia, a people with which it had historic ties. What did we get from this deal, one which our President told us was about ethnic cleansing of Moslems, by Serbs. We as a nation supported as a point of principle, our right to interfere in a sovereign nations civil war, and we separated out Bosnia... Unknown to nearly all Americans, we now operate the largest military base in all of Europe, which oversees, surprise surprise, a huge Army base which protects a pipeline. Wonderful dedicated American soldiers willing to give their lives for our country, now protect this base. But not to confuse people with international politics, wars, & oil pipelines, this wonderful lady, who we instantly fell in love with, with her black hair and blue eyes, very white complexion, lovingly speaks to all people, regardless of race, or ethnicity. She runs after me, to make sure she can get fruit & healthy food to my sweetie who is unfortunately vacation sick. She calls me baby as they do in New Orleans, to all visitors, out of affection. She speaks & helps all people, all travelers, making them feel loved & comforted. TODAY, she was gone. The wonderful helpful kitchen help guy, who is proudly African American, asked me if every thing was all right, and I said She is still sick, but where is she? (this wonderful woman). She said Oh, she is off today. I then commented we would love to take her home with us, and then asked, is she as nice to you guys as she is to us? He answered: She is as nice to us, treats us, all of us help, as much as family, as she does to all of you. She came about a year ago, and she has been the greatest person to work for. I then replied, Gee, I wish we could take her home with us. And he replied, in thinking we meant up to our room, Well, you can do so, but make sure you give her back when you are done.. It was done with such good humor & heartfelt feelking also, that it made my wife smile, when I told her so. Well, here is the kicker to this story about a woman who has made & is making a real difference in peoples lives. When she made herself known to us, that first day we went to the breakfast room (since then my wife has been sick), she said she was from Bosnia, and quickly I replied, You are Moslem? She knowiungly looked at me, not ever telling this to any one, smiled and nodded. I will try to get her picture & post I to here, so every one can get a good look past our stereotypes. My wife comes from southern /Russia where moslems & Orthodox Christians are indistinguishable, & who until now, have largel lived in peace & harmony. My thoughts which are a genuine reflection of the political world we live in are: If we can get past the politics of oil & war & instead worry about our planet & its ability to continue to be our home, we can all learn to get alone & love & respect each other... Best wishes, Melanie, if you read this. You are the true face of Christiantiy, I like to see, & of love & caring... hoping that your mom does not suffer so, for too long, and that she visits you often in your dreams, and that as my mom told me when I began crying when she told me she was about to die , It is good to cry...
