just determined Im moving away from science fiction, horror, & fantasy type writing, maybe for good. I dont look down on the stuff. I think its wonderful, but the last story I sent off did NOT have those fantastic elements. it wasnt bizarre or off the wall or anything like that. it wasnt jazzy. it was simply a story, within the simple tradition of being a story. I hope it finds a good home. I think its one of the better things Ive written. felt cleaner, more focused, not as forced as my other stuff. if you were to walk out in the world right now, blend in the norm, avoid extremes, which is what people do usually... thats what Im attempting to write, something a little more indicative of life, I think, as opposed to what we force or want it to be. my existence is strange enough, you know? Im way out there. Ive been way out there for a very long time now. its not something I want to dwell on, LOL. human beings, by nature, are symbolic. its in the language we speak, in everything we do. our culture is obsessed with monsters, high tech visions, light-sabers, whatever the in thing might be these days. this is our entertainment. but the monster under the bed was an illusion. I think you knew it all along. you will never meet Ted Bundy. you will never be attacked by zombies or werewolves. you will never save the universe with... Dr Who! or fire a photon torpedo. you will, however, fall in love. youll struggle. youll hurt. youll have faith in humanity, and youll lose it, again. youll die eventually, and it wont be on the receiving end of a laser beam. ever read Grapes of Wrath? I want to focus more on that shit. I guess its what some assholes, and they ARE assholes, would consider important literature. clearly, theyve never read Heinlein ;)
