just for laffs... a tale of two riots: Riot #1: Ames Iowa, April of this year. Large mob of students wander drunkenly around downtown for no apparent reason (well, VEISHA.. whatever) - several cars overturned - light pole pulled down, which severely injures a bystanding student, police have to bully there way through a crowd to get him to a hospital. - students lob rocks and beer cans at cops - cops pretty much keep a safe distance, and crowd is dispersed without the use of tear gas, flash bangs, rubber bullets, etc. idiots who commit crimes are identified and rounded up later, and students lament that their annual drunken festival is cancelled on account of repeated rioting... but otherwise no violence toward the crowd in general, even though police suffer taunts and various missiles being lobbed at them by presumably otherwise non-felonious students.
