just got an influx of new queens that added me from this city... Just a few words of advice... 1) ALWAYS Own your craft and create everything for yourself: paint your own face, do your own hair, find/make your own clothes, and create your own personality; having someone else do you up is like having them have ownership over everything you do and say in life. Learn from the experienced queens but take charge and ownership of your own craft... and being brutally honesty here-drag is a solo act. 2) CoverGirl does not cover boy. The term less is more does NOT imply for drag queens. More is actually less. You want to paint for the few people in the back of the club trying to get a glimpse of you. Youll get washed out by the club lights that are pointed onto you while your on stage so define that contour and highlight so we see dimension to your face and this will help you with feminizing your masculine face. OH and dont forget to always BLEND that shit. There are TONS of video tutorials on the interweb for that type of stuff.. just go on youtube or something... 3) KNOW YOUR WORDS. Lip syncing is something you need to work on. People who arent brought up in the performance world wont know this and actually some people dont know this... when you sing along to a song just quietly or just mouthing the words your lips arent moving at all. You need to exaggerate a lot a bit more. and LEARN YOUR WORDS. LEARN YOUR WORDS... oh and LEARN YOUR WORDS. Nothing more obvious to the audience besides your washed out, non-dimensional face. True story... if you look super busted but you know your words to the dotted is and T- you win. 4) Dont stomp around the city like your shit dont stink. You gotta earn your stripes little one and it takes years. And be careful of what you say even though your throwing a little bit of fun shade... the gays spread shit like that like wild fire. So dont piss off an established queen cause they will cut you like NO OTHER. Ive seen it happen... not pretty. 5) You have a responsibility now. Be a voice for the community, help fund raise money to our local charities and you will be a better person for doing that. Come out to the monthly charity shows and volunteer your time. This way your helping the community out PLUS your getting valuable on stage practice time. Learn about how the drag culture has changed the way we live today here especially in Vancouver let alone in North America. Be the greater cause while having fun doing it. 6) HAVE FUN. Drag is suppose to be fun... If your not having fun.. then go smoke one... haha kidding (or am i?) Im always available to advice and tips so always feel free to ask! just be able to take the criticism. Thats all :D Remember new squirl-friends to always Have FUN!!! xoxo Sienna Blaze :D
