just took my nature hike around the Charlotte Hilton University Place. Some white, some purple flowering trees, fresh waxy leaves on the magnolias (Kate Hepburn will be happy to hear that), a hopping robin, a lonely buzzard circling high over the nearby hospital. Found a small stretch of real woods- the forest floor strewn w/ discarded tires, beer cans, plastic garbage bags, broken crates & miscellaneous detritus from the nearby abandoned mall. I dodged a bunch of cars to cross the highway- go, Purple Aces! I still got the moves (when my life depends on em). Mall after mall after mall- is this evolution or de-evolution? Q: Are we not men? A: We are Devo! Lunch outdoors in the Walgreens parking lot was a hot dog, bag of Utz chips & a water for $2.50, courtesy of a Muscular Dystrophy wienie roast. Saw a coot plying the too-green waters of the fake lake behind the hotel, couple of painted turtles sunning on two floating tractor tires. Love me some Nature, folks, and Ill take it where I can find it!
