Christian Fernandez, a 43-year old son of Pandan who recently won the presidency of the Quezon City chapter of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, the biggest IBP chapter in the country with about a thousand lawyers in its fold. Christian, a member of a clan of lawyers from Pandan, bested Atty. Noel Malaya, an Ateneo law graduate who is the criminal lawyer of note in Metro Manila’s courts. The QC IBP election is among the exciting events watched all these years by the country’s legal practitioners. The post of chapter head has been a much coveted post by big law firms, who usually throw into the contest their law fraternity brothers coming mostly from such top law schools as Ateneo and UP. The young Pandananon is son to couple Atty. Merito Fernandez and Mila who has two other young lawyers in the family. It was a distinct achievement for Christian, an MLQ University law graduate who, after passing bar, privately practiced with Merit’s law office in Escolta before joining the Public Attorneys Office. He found his way later to his present calling as corporate counsel of the wealthy Tantoco family, owner of the Rustans conglomerate.
