kathie swaim commented yesterday on remembering the dances in the gymnasium. it reminded me of how i use phrases that people today have know idea what we mean - like sock hops - it just rolls off my tongue and my kids look at me like what in the world are you talking about. i really loved those record hops and sock hops. that old gymnasium was home to a lot of memories. does anyone remember the dance contests in the gym where they played a song and then stopped it - if you were in the right spot you won(something or other - cant remember the prize). does anybody remember, during basketball season, about midway through the JV game, the varsity guys, sitting high up across on the other side would stand up in unison and file out and down to the locker rooms? we would all stand up and clap and shout. you know one day a few years back , i took my teenage daughter(who played basketball) to that old gym. some worker let us in and we went through the whole place, backstage, the old locker room, the stands. when i tell people that it looks exactly like the gym in the movie hoosiers, i dont think they actually know that i mean it looks EXACTLY like the gym in the movie.
