l l OFFERING LIGHT AND ITS MEANING l l Offering butter lamps is the most powerful offering because their light symbolizes wisdom. Just as a lamp dispels darkness, offering light from a butter lamp represents removing the darkness of ignorance in order to attain Buddha’s luminous clear wisdom. सबै मिली १०८ पटक सम्मा भनु र भन्नु लगाउनुहोस ॐ मानी पद्मे हुङ, Brahma Sutra, Shakyamuni Buddha mentioned the 10 benefits of offering lights: 1. One becomes like the light of the world. 2. One achieves clairvoyance of the pure eye as a human. 3. One achieves the Deva’s eye. 4. One receives the wisdom to discriminate virtue from non-virtue. 5. One is able to eliminate the concept of inherent existence. 6. One receives the illumination of wisdom. 7. One is reborn as a human or Deva. 8. One receives wealth of great enjoyment. 9. One quickly becomes liberated. 10. One quickly attains enlightenment. FOR BENEFIT OF THOSE GOING THROUGH DIFFICULTIES – We offer lamps with the wish that suffering and its cause may be dispelled and dedicate the merits to whom are suffering. AS A PRAYER FOR SOMEONES LONGEVITY – We can offer lamps on the occasion of someone’s birthday or anytime, with the wish that they remain long in this world with good health to bring benefit to beings.
