lately ive been watching a lot of 70s 80s and 90s action and sci-fi movies with friends, usually stuff ive heard of but never seen before. My friend valdis got me to watch robocop, total recall, predator, alien, and others... And i realized i had never seen the matrix before! Which... I know. I live under a rock. (Im watching the matrix right now). Anyway it is sort of amazing how we tell the same stories again and again, just in different ways. Heck, im watching the matrix right now and thinking to myself all you need to do is change this script a little bit and alter the tone...and boom: the lego movie Seriously the character roles, story structure and themes are pretty much the same. In a world ruled by a manipulating system a -chosen one- meets a cool, collected and capable heroine and comes in contact with a -wise old man- and the hero joins the resistance against the system! Then he goes trough a transformation that evens his odds against the rival and frees the opressed. (More or less) I mean we could talk about joseph campbells story archetypes and bsbsbs... But we all kinda know what im talking about. Theres nothing new under the sun. Now excuse me i have to munch my popcorn and get all fat and gross
