#localbikeshop No.2: OMAFIETS. Just back from a fantastic visit to this wonderful bike shop on the George Street Cycleway in Redfern. There is a small shopfront on the street (17 George St) but if you head down the laneway you will find the most amazing bike cave in Sydney, part bike shop part bike museum. Omafiets Dutch Bicycles started up in Marrickville in 2011 initially just selling secondhand Dutch bikes and European road bikes, but has expanded to a range of commuting, touring, family, kids, electric and cargo bicycles, plus parts and accessories. They recently moved to a bigger Redfern premises, and expanded their range to include Bromptons, eZee electric bikes, BYKs, panniers, ding-dong bells and lots more parts and accessories. The workshop does everything from wheelbuilding to cargo bike servicing. Their vision is a city where bicycles are the default mode of transport—and a part of everyday life. The Omafiets team is Chris and Maurice (owner/managers), Will (head mechanic), Tim and Ollie (mechanics/sales) and Erin (trainee mechanic/sales). Get down there for last minute Christmas shopping. omafiets.au/
