#marcwithacsongoftheday Okay, this isnt technically a Marc With a C song. I mean, yes, I do sing on it, and I appear in the video, but really, it was all Sci-Fried. One evening, I was helping out during a Sci-Fried session. It was either the one where I came in to sing the chorus of Foiled Again, or the one where I came to doctor and sing on Looking Back At Today (which Im not credited for on the album, and I think they feel really bad about that). Chuck mentioned offhandedly that I oughta sing a few lines on a Star Wars song they were doing, and I thought it sounded like fun. I threw in a few jokey falsettos, sang my lines, and sort of expected that to be the end of the story. A few days/weeks later, they had decided they wanted to do a video for it. Now, you have to understand that there are three things I hate about being a musicians, and I hate them equally: 1. Changing guitar strings. 2. Coming up with setlists that will make everybody happy. 3. Appearing in music videos. Seriously. Any of those three things will be the reason I one day quit. Ill be in the middle of the hour-long process of changing the Rickenbacker strings, and Ill just say screw this noise, it just isnt worth it, and then Ill never play another note. So, I hemmed and hawed for a few minutes, weighing my options. On one hand, I thought it could be fun to appear in a Star Wars themed music video because theres be a lot of toys laying around that would be nice to play with. On the other hand, Id have to lip sync and act and do all of the things that arent writing songs and singing them for people, which are the tasks I tend to avoid. Overall, I quickly said yes, because it would be stupid to say no and not appear in a video that was being made where Im one of the lead vocalists. The shoot lasted over... two days, I think? I asked David C. Edwards - the director - one favor: please try and hide my double chin. Thats usually the only thing I ask any time a camera is pointed at me. Hide the double chin. If you can do that, we can work together. I wasnt around for the parts of the video that used the puppets. I didnt even know they (or the voices in the beginning) would even be a part of the song. Thats what I get for being arms length about videos, right? There was one portion that wasnt used. We were trying to do a shot where someone would force wave and then my guitar would magically fly into my hands. This meant that someone had to be upstairs and basically dropping my guitar from above my head into my hands. Obviously, that didnt work. It graduated to a shot where someone out of frame would try to throw the guitar at me and have me catch it and start playing, but it never went well. Im sure that a pretty funny blooper reel could be made from that footage. I dont have a ton of other memories about the shoot, other than... well, it was a lot of fun, and Im glad they asked me to be a part of it. 32,000 YouTube views later, and its one of the most heard things Ive ever been a part of.
