..masjid in Gibraltar, Gibraltar!...remember the Muslim warrior in the 8th century Tariq bin Ziyad once fought a war here. Remembering History of Tariq Bin Ziyad. Spain was under a cruel and tyranny ruler King of Ghotic. Discrimination and imposing high taxes lead to majority of Christian and Jews moved and seek for shelter to peace and prosperity states under Islamic rules in Northern Africa amongst millions was Julian, the Governor of Ceuta of whom his princess Florinda was raped by Roderick, a royal member King of Ghotic. He appealed and requested for help to Musa bin Nasair, the young Islamic ruler in Northern Africa to liberate his country from inhumane treatment. After permission was granted by the then Khalifah, Tariq Bin Ziyad, from a Barbar race and a former assistant to Musa Bin Nasair lead a 12,000 Muslim forces crossed to strait between Africa and Europe in May 711 AD. After reaching, Tariq Bin Ziyad assembled his forces at rock mountain called Jabal Tariq now famously known as Jibraltar. On top here he called all the vessels that took them to cross the strait to be burnt. An order that caught his generals by surprised thus some asked him How can we go back then?!. Tariq Bin Ziyad was strong and persistent by saying We came here not to return, we have 2 choices, to conquer and settle here or we syahid to the path of Almighty Allah!. Tariq Bin Ziyad inspirations lead to his forces obeyed and stand by his side and in 19 July 711 AD they fought a battle with the 100,000 Ghotic armies lead by King Federick at the estuary of Barbate river. They defeated, paralysed the Ghotic forces and King Federick died in this war. Tariq Bin Ziyad divided his forces into 4 teams, to Cordoba, to Malaga, to Granada and to Toledo. The fierce ever battle was at Ecija. Within 2 years all Spanish plateau falls into Islamic rules. Portugal was conquered few years later. The bravery spirits & disciplined Tariq Bin Ziyad has inspired Iqbal, a Persian poet to compose a poem titled Piyam-i-Mesriq. Tariq Bin Ziyad intended to move conquering other part of Europe which could have changed the history of Europe but Allah decided otherwise, he was called by the Khalifah to go to Damascus(Damsyik) where few years later he died there. This famous & well known Muslims warrior has conquered Spain, the biggest European territory for which under Muslim rule for 8 centuries. The bravery of Tariq Bin Ziyad is similar to Salahuddin Al Ayubi(Saladin) that liberated Jerusalem from the Crusaders in comparison. May Allah blessed their souls and placed them in Jannah. Ameen.
