most of us are aware that as humankind there is that recognition that there is something peculiar about us deep down that characterizes us and sets us apart from other animals. something that goes right to the core of our being that makes us suffer a peculiar fate impossible to escape. for ages it was discussed that the core was a reference to our essence, something special, unique, a substance maybe but it was never found. and to this day it remains an enigma as well as a dilemma. the reason it may not be ever found is that our essence may not be anything more than our paradoxical nature - half animal half symbolic. and wot is perhaps brilliant is the story of adam and eve which conveys this paradox and it was most brilliantly executed by Kierkegaard. and every major thinker ever since from fromm, Sartre, maslow, rollo may jung have also devoted extensive vital work in this area. and it is our symbolic nature that brings us out of nature in sharp contrast to nature. for there s a name a history. we re creaters speculating atoms and infinity and able to imagine being at any point in space and time. this dexterity, this ethereality this self consciousness gives us the status of a small god in nature...but we also know we are also fodder for worms.and so this is the paradox : as much a part of nature, hopelessly in it and also out of nature, up in the stars anad yet housed in a body - split n two
