mum question: desperately need some advice. Im exclusively breastfeeding my 7 week old bub (except for 1 formula bottle per day given by his dad as their bonding time). My problem is that my baby only ever drinks for 10-12 minutes during the day and is still feeding every 2-2.5 hours and this duration reduces further at night to 5-10 minute feeds every hour!! I have tried so hard to stretch him out but he wont take a dummy and wont stop crying/go back to sleep until I b/f him. It feels like he is snacking rather than having a full feed but even if I fully wake him up, he just isnt interested in any more at that stage. He goes to sleep in his bassinet next to me but usually ends up in my bed after his first night time wake up. Im absolutely exhausted as I have 18 month old twins too so hardly any time to rest Pinky says: Wow! You are busy! at this age babies still have tiny tummies so often have feeds in stages. They can also take up to around 12 weeks to develop a regular day/night sleep rhythm. I would get a lactation consultant to watch him feed to make sure he is attached well and feeding efficiently. I am also wondering if he is sensitive to the formula and if that is upsetting him and waking him at night. If you can possibly get somebody in to help you with your toddlers occasionally at least, it would be great for you - even a school kid who can play with them in the afternoon while you sit and feed your baby but are there to supervise - 12 to 15 year olds are usually great and can be paid a small amount.
