my great regret is that, as studio historian, i did not start recording on film interviews with elstree veterans 30 years ago. for instance up until 1989 we had a changing group of about 60 vets come to the studio for lunch, film screening and look around. to qualify they had all worked at the studio before 1939 - fascinating memories - sadly all gone now. i never recorded the many star interviews i have done over the past 40 years except a handful on cassette (trevor howard, peter cushing, dinah sheridan, donald pleasence, edward woodward, etc). however, the elstree project is trying to make amends. we have so far recorded nearly 50 vets on camera and i am currently lining up actors such as francis matthews, jeremy bulloch, dave prowse, derren nesbitt, etc. so far we have filmed roger moore, steven speilberg, kenneth cope, etc plus some fascinating cameramen, props men, continuity girls, etc. easy for me as i just sit and chat, with howie and his student camera crews from the uni of herts doing the hard bit and bob keeping us in order. the ultimate aim is that all the material will be available to researchers and public alike.
