my mom had to take my littlest brother ludwig to the emergency vet clinic last night. ludwig got into the litter box a few times earlier and squatted, tried to pee, didnt pee and yelled in what sounded like pain... then he licked himself a lot, tried to pee again, and still nothing. mom rushed him there and they really werent sure why he couldnt go, since cats as young as him dont normally have blockage issues or even uti issues, they tried a few different ways to get him to go, and he wouldnt, so they had to use a needle and draw the urine from his bladder. they tested it and there was bacteria, which they said isnt normal because it was drawn straight from his bladder and there shouldnt be that much bacteria in the sample...he got an antibiotic injection that lasts 14 days, medicine to take for pain and something to relax his bladder muscles so hopefully he will be able to pee on his own. he had to stay in the garage tonight and have a litter box with some special litter in it too so that we know if he peed and if it had anything like blood in it. he will see our regular vet today and if he hasnt peed, he may be put under anesthesia and given a catheter. the vet said congenital defects are a possibility, since ludwig is a siamese cat and some breeds do have issues just by heredity...there are other things that could be causing the issue, like a mass or a tumor in the area of his bladder causing him to feel he has to pee but then he isnt able to go when he tries. we dont know yet. it could be as simple as an infection, though that isnt so common. our vet might have to do a radiograph or something, we arent sure, but we are worried and hope it turns out to be something easily treated so he can feel better fast.
