my mummers (Diane Goins Injejikian) just mentioned a metaphor that perfectly applies to an organizing lesson ive been stuck on for the past year: bucket=infrastructure water=membership/outreach every organization wants to pour water into the bucket. but as an organization grows, the bucket can no longer hold all the water and becomes full of holes. without firmly closing the holes or upgrading to a bigger bucket, all the water obviously pours out. over. and over. again. problem: when only a few organizers in a group seem to take all the gaping holes seriously, they get intensely burned out/disillusioned/angry/hurt trying to frantically--yet deliberately--plug the holes by themselves...while everyone else mostly keeps screaming MORE WATER! and out the plugs fall. #NotSolidarity #WillLettingGoEverGetEasier #GoWhereYoureValued #ThankfulForMFS
