myPolice Maryborough IMMEDIATE EMAIL NOTIFICATION Joint Policing Operation Huge Success Police from Tiaro and Howard stations from the 3rd to the 7th July conducted extra patrols on the Bruce Highway from south of Curra to north of Howard targeting the Fatal Five. Results proved successful with a large number of traffic infringements written for speeding offences and other traffic matters. Of concern though was the large number of speeding fines issued over the four day period. With a total of 2 high speed suspensions (instant licence loss due to speeds of 45km/hr or more in the designated speed zone), 54 motorists caught over the limit in the 100km/hr zones, 6 caught speeding in the 80km/hr zones and 4 caught speeding in the 60km/hr zones. Of those motorists caught in the 60km/hr zones, what concerns police was the fact that these areas were roadwork zones with speeds of 80km or more registered in these areas. Other traffic offences included unlicensed driving, unregistered motor vehicles, P Plate drivers failing to display P Plates, learner driver unaccompanied in a motor vehicle, driver crossing continue double white lines, motor vehicle impoundment due to traffic offences associated with the driver, 3 provisional licence holders loss of licences due to high speeds and one arrest for an outstanding warrant. Overall you could say it was a successful traffic operation with excellent results, but you could also say that it seems clear that motorists aren’t getting the message about speeding particularly since the two highest speeds recorded were 157km/hr and 145km both in 100km/hr zones.
