myPolice QPS News Police crackdown to continue as Gold Coast remains safe Extra police saturated the Gold Coast entertainment precincts overnight with no major incidents reported during this time. Commissioner Ian Stewart said that police have ramped up their focus with additional resources and a clear message that anti-social or violent behaviour will not be tolerated anywhere in the state. “Overtime has never been a consideration when it comes to the use of SERT capability; however the support of government to allow greater use of other specialist units and tactics is welcomed. Over the next few days a significant task force will deploy statewide. “This crackdown will be ongoing with extra police back on the streets again tonight. This is just the start of our attack against unacceptable behaviour and we are in this for the long haul. We make no apologies for our tough approach. “This is will be an enduring and sustained operation with high visibility policing the key to its success. “Whatever resources are needed, whether it is general duties through to specialised police like PSRT or SERT, there will be no restrictions on their deployment if they are required. “People need to behave in an acceptable manner or expect to be dealt with by police,” said Commissioner Ian Stewart. South Eastern Region Acting Assistant Commissioner Steve Hollands said the Gold Coast community and tourists can rest assured the Gold Coast remains as always a safe and secure place to live and visit.
