n a policy being implemented to try and cut down on illegal meth making, CVS customers will now have to show identification to purchase nail polish remover. According to WPRI, CVS customers across Southern New England should be prepared that if they purchase nail polish remover they’ll not only be asked to show ID, but they’ll also be limited on just how many bottles of the product they can buy. A sign posted near polish removers reportedly reads, “CVS/Pharmacy is helping to protect our community from the illegal making and use of methamphetamine because acetone can be used in the process. Valid I.D. must be presented to purchase acetone-containing products.” Fox News reports that journalist Rachel Rohr recounted for WBUR how her routine trip to a CVS for vitamins and nail polish remover was affected by the new policy. Rohr said an error message appeared on the screen during her self-checkout. She received a slip of paper that read, “Products containing acetone/iodine cannot be purchased at the self-checkout. Please see associate for assistance.”
