n keeping with it’s non-profit purposes of supporting local artistic talent, and bringing cultural enrichment to the community, PRIZM is sponsoring a new display at Way Library. Titled, “Fluid Motion of the Sub-Conscious and Soul: The Rhythm of Abstract Expressionism” the new collection will be on view from Aug. 8th through September of 2014. On display are fourty abstract expressionist paintings created by PRIZM artist Linda Pertusati. Linda’s paintings are a rich textured overlay of color made by using vigorous gestures and marks that add to the abstract expressionist nature of her work. Her process is a mix of spontaneous and automatic, energetic creation of the subconscious, inspired by color, texture, and form found in nature and the urban environment. Through a process of organic expressionism, visual elements are restructured into an abstraction of energy, color and texture. As her body of work has evolved over the years, Linda’s creative process remains consistent in that the fluid marks are applied to a multi-layered surface. It incorporates linear skeins of paint splattered, poured, thrown and dripped onto canvas, culminating with the brushing and sponging of non-imagery resulting in overlays of color and patterned texture. Through the relationship of color, marks, form and texture, a rhythm and balance of abstraction is achieved as each painting develops into a unique, intuitively guided expression. The intent, end result, and heart of Linda’s art is improvisation. Enjoy the display through Sept. during Way Library hours
