BETWEEN THE PHD ANIMAL CARE GIVER AND THE ILLITERATE GENERAL - Salako D.A. Although the general himself is said to address the press today, and we keenly await this mother-of-all press conferences. Lets just say and assume that Buhari didnt go to school. The clearly majority of the masses of our people prefers GMB, definitely not because of his qualification, not whether he went to a formal school or not, but rather because of his pedigree and his past. No one, not even his very ardent hater and opposition would dare place him side by side with the current CinC with his integrity, his simplicity and proven pedigree. IT IS A JONATHAN that makes a BUHARI an answer in this time and age. Isnt it a bother to educated in our land that a supposedly illiterate general is preferred to a learned Zoo and Animal keeper? Isnt it a bother that in this age where there is a huge preference for paper qualification in employing firms which has resulted to Nigerians seeking to even have it abroad, no matter what it takes, yet even teachers of our ivy institutions prefers a man who apparently knows what is needed in our nation and is preferred to take responsibility than the one who is, yes, a PhD holder, but very dull, slow, sheepish and apparently irresponsible leadership wise? For me, its no wonder really because, few years back, Dangote declared that PhD holders are applying for jobs as drivers in his firm. That is how degenerate our paper qualification has become. Often physically meaningless and intellectually lacking. Dont we have it on record, how many of the blue chip companies we see today was started by those who didnt go to school or who never finished school? I am an entrepreneur but my modest achievement as an employer of labour has very little to do with my schooling as I achieved much of it prior to my qualification. How learned was MKO Abiola when he got his first riches, how about we take a look at Aliko Dangote himself who started as a mere trader but today employs expatriates. Yes, we may say these had government backing some of which may be shady, but President Andrew Jackson of the United States never had college certificates and had no known formal education but he was able to develop himself (self tutoring or home schooling) to become of one of Americas greats. Yes, some may say, he eventually became an Attorney with self-tutoring, but Buhari also became a general, attending military schools and training institutions, getting certificates and diplomas along the way. Indeed, there are more others and they are listed below in no particular order:- *Abraham Lincoln, former U.S. president. Finished one year of formal schooling, self-taught himself trigonometry, and read Blackstone on his own to become a lawyer. *Amadeo Peter Giannini, multimillionaire founder of Bank of America. Dropped out of high school *Michael Dell, billionaire founder of Dell Computers, which started out of his college dorm room. Dropped out of college. *Richard Branson, billionaire founder of Virgin Records, Virgin Atlantic Airways, Virgin Mobile, and more. Dropped out of high school at 16. *Walt Disney, founder of the Walt Disney Company. Dropped out of high school at 16. *Larry Ellison, billionaire co-founder of Oracle software company. Dropped out of two different colleges. *Henry Ford, billionaire founder of Ford Motor Company. Did not attend college. *Andrew Carnegie, industrialist and philanthropist, and one of the first mega-billionaires in the US. Elementary school dropout. I must submit however, that If at this age of enlightenment and exposure, far more majority are gunning for a change from a DOCTORATE DEGREE holder who have had his chance but chose to pamper thieves and rogues, encourage financial impunity, act too slowly and make excuses for everything and anything and takes no responsibility over failures of his employees, to an UNSCHOOLED GENERAL, then the Jonathanian god has made it clearer to Nigerians that paper qualification is nothing compared to personal carriage and articulation, its nothing compared to decorum and moral grandeur. Our current CinC has made education look so insignificant, so useless, so needless. And As for me, if for any reason, as Jonathan did in the PDP to make sure that no opposition came up against him during their primaries, and he succeeds with same at the FEBUHARI 14TH pole, I will take it as a victory, rather than a loss, a triumph of reasoning and logic rather than a deprivation. If Jonathan was so sure he had performed and that Nigerians were convinced that he is far better than the illiterate general, why not allow Nigerians to judge with their thumb for the umbrella, why not give Nigerians the liberty to be the judge and on their own accord, reject the broom. As for me, Id rather disenfranchise myself than vote for this unconvincing and opportunistic regime. At the end, WE ARE ALL IN IT TOGETHER, whichever way the pendulum swings.
