ndian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Kolkata Estd by the Ministry of HRD, Govt of India Mohanpur Campus, PO Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Mohanpur-741252, Nadla, West Bengal Email [email protected], Website iiserkol.ac.in Admission Notice 2013-14 Ph.D Admission 2013 Information and Instruction for applicants of Post-Bachelor Integrated PhD programme (2013-14) Eligibility: Students with a B.Sc./B.E./B.Tech./M.B.B.S. degree from any recognized University/Institute/College can apply for the Post-Bachelor Integrated Ph.D. programme in Biological, Chemical, Earth, Mathematical and Physical Sciences Candidates need to secure a minimum of 60% marks in Honours or Major (whichever applicable) or equivalent grades in their qualifying examinations Those who are appearing in the final examination of their degree course can also apply; for them, the eligibility marks are 60% in aggregate, based on the marks obtained in the undergraduate exam Students applying for a Post-Bachelor Integrated Ph.D. Programme are required to have the following subject(s) in the undergraduate courses Selection procedure: Institute-level committee(s) will scrutinize all the applications, and prepare a shortlist of candidates, who will be called for written test/interview The students qualifying the written test will be interviewed (the same day or the next day) The Institute will finally declare the list of selected candidates on the Institute website Students will be given a monthly fellowship For candidates whose final exam marks are not available at the time of interview, admission to the programme will be provisional; they must produce their final mark sheet to academic cell showing that they had secured 60% or more in aggregate in their Bachelor within 60 days of their admission Written Test / Interview: Written test is mandatory for all candidates Those who are selected from the written test would be called for the interview For example, the written test for Department of Chemical Sciences is on 17th June 2013 in the morning The interview for Chemical Sciences would be in the afternoon of 17th and both in the morning and the afternoon of 18th reporting time for the written test/interview is 9.00 am in the morning All candidates must bring blue/black ball point pens and a writing board for the written test Venue: The venue of written test/interview is the Mohanpur campus of IISER Kolkata How to Apply: The applicants should open the link registration.iiserkol.ac.in/PhD_Application.html and properly fill the application form as instructed and submit Applicants should save the properly filled application form and take a print as the hard copy of the application Documents Required: Selected candidates for test/interview should bring a hard copy of application along with the required documents listed below at the time of test/interview Attested copies of mark sheets and certificates of all examinations starting from high school leaving certificate, two letters of recommendation (in sealed envelopes) and a statement of purpose (not exceeding 300 words), photo identity and proof of age Selection Procedure: List of shortlisted candidates (based on merit, subject specialization and required research area) for test/interview will be published in the IISER-Kolkata website tentatively in the third week of April, 2013 The interview date will be announced along with the shortlisted candidates list The selected candidates will receive the offer letter containing also the last date for joining shortly after the interview Course Work and Laboratory Rotation: The Research fellows will have to do course work and laboratory rotations during first semester The course content will be decided by the department concerned for each student according to his/ her need Ph.D Supervisor will be selected only after the course work/Laboratory rotation Important Dates Application Portal Opens: 24th April 2013 Last date of application: 26th May 2013 Publication of list of selected candidates for test and interview: 30th May 2013 Dates for written test and interview: For Chemical Sciences: 17th June, 2013 to 18th June 2013 For Physical Sciences: 18th June 2013 to 19th June 2013 For Biological, Mathematical and Earth Sciences : 19th June, 2013 to 20th June, 2013 Publication of final list of selected candidates: 26th June 2013 Reporting time for written test/Interview: 9.00 a.m. in the morning
