newmexico.org/scaredselfie Social Media Contest Asks, “What If There Were NO MORE CHILES?” New Mexico Tourism Department uses ‘Scared Selfies’ to Promote Halloween Travel Imagine being told there were no more chiles in New Mexico. The look on your face might be scared, shocked, or even horrified. The New Mexico Tourism Department wants you to submit a “scared selfie” showing the look on your face if you were told New Mexico was out of chile for a chance to win a 4-pack of tickets to the Ghost Tour of Old Town Albuquerque! “When we started looking for a fun way to promote Halloween and our Haunted New Mexico page at newmexico.org, there seemed to be a consensus that there’s nothing scarier to a New Mexican than life without chile,” said Tourism Secretary Monique Jacobson. “New Mexico has so many fun ways to celebrate Halloween and Dia de los Muertos. We love the idea of people doing something silly, like taking a selfie with a scared face, to get them thinking about travel this weekend.” The Tourism Department has recently compiled a list of the top haunted hotels, ghost towns and tours, and festivals celebrating Halloween and Dia de los Muertos. The Haunted New Mexico page is a guide to frightening and fun travel ideas in all four corners of the state. “The scared selfies we’ve seen so far have been hysterical,” says Jacobson. “But the best photos, by far, are the selfies that incorporate a little piece of New Mexico as the backdrop.” To participate in the contest, post your “scared selfie” on Instagram or Twitter with the hashtag #NewMexicoTrickorTrue before 12:00 pm MT on Friday, October 31st, 2014. Winners will be announced by 5:00 pm the same day. View the Haunted New Mexico page at newmexico.org/hauntednewmexico. Find out more about the Scared Selfie Promotion at . # # #
