nich (the taller half of curds + whey) got a call tonight that he is being evicted tomorrow from his home behind kingfish. this very sadly marks the end of the reading series and an end of an era in both of our lives, but especially nichs. born in south san francisco, he worked two jobs as a teenager so he could pay rent to live in a house with a bunch of 20 year olds who didnt know he was still in high school. they were just like, where do you go during the day? and found out like six months into the situation that he wasnt even 18. pushed from one gentrified city to the next, he found a good spot in north oakland in a basement next to the 2nd oldest bar in town. but it is getting harder and harder to survive in the bay, with both oakland and san francisco catering to the elite and evicting the poor. it happens everyday, we know you know it, but we are just letting you know its happening again, right now. the point of the series was to cause a little trouble with this parasitic landlord while also providing a platform to support our friends work, and we did. nichs house is going to be turned into yuppie condominiums. we arent suggesting that since you all know where they will be that you should TP them when you get the chance, we would ~never suggest such a thing~ right? our plan is to have nich take my place in walnut creek for a little while and then we are both leaving the bay to live elsewhere. hopefully when we return, the tech boom will have burst and this area will be liveable again, but until then we think curds + whey will continue only as a collaborative way to work on publishing chapbooks about ponies and other terrible things. love + rage, sarah
