not too awful long ago i was asked to write a poem describing how and why i love Louisville. my poem was part of a special Louisville project promoting the Arts. it was published in poster form. Master Pip Pullen did an incredible job with his magical art design touch. the poster includes images by 14 artists. it was unveiled at Gill Scott Hollands The Green Building. my band Southside performed. it was an awesome evening!! i travel a great deal. im blessed with wanderlust and homesickness. while traveling recently i recalled this poem & events associated with the making of it (i shaped the poem so it dances cross the page but facebook has its own ideas on form & line breaks): LOUISVILLE sweet city of my dreams Ron Whitehead Louisville Louisville Louisville sweet city of my dreams sweet city of my dreams for years and years through laughter and tears I’ve wandered your backstreets alleys railroad tracks sidewalks main streets and interstates Louisville Louisville Louisville sweet city of my dreams sweet city of my dreams I love you so no matter where I travel no matter where I go your friendly smile your warm embrace always calls me home call me home Bardstown Road The Highlands Cherokee Road Frankfort Avenue Crescent Hill downtown Main Street 4th Street The Waterfront Market Street Ohio River Oh Great River Beargrass Creek your parks Cherokee Seneca Shawnee Chickasaw Iroquois Tyler Central George Rogers Clark Tom Sawyer Veterans Louisville Loop music art culture nature underground movements the global literary renaissance The Storm Generation Published in Heaven The Ali Center WFPK WFPL WUOL Public Radio Partnership earX-tacy records Carmichael’s Books Wild n Wooly Old Town Liquors My Morning Jacket Paul K and The Weathermen NRBQ Slint Rising Shotgun Kinghorse Rodan Endpoint By The Grace of God Tyrone Cotton Ron Whitehead and SOUTHSIDE VHS or Beta Wax Fang Bodeco Susi Wood Danny Flannigan and rain chorus The Thunderdome Hunter S.
