nst.my/node/17705 Facebook bars Dr M’s blog BY AZMI ANSHAR - 26 JULY 2014 @ 8:04 AM. KUALA LUMPUR: FACEBOOK, the global social networking behemoth with 1.28 billion active users, has barred users from establishing direct links to chedet.cc, the blog site of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. No official reason has been offered, although users can still copy and paste Dr Mahathir’s writings onto their status page for public viewing. Attempts to form a link were met with this pop-up: “You can’t post this because it has a blocked link. The content you’re trying to share includes a link that our security systems detected to be unsafe. Please remove this link to continue. If you think you’re seeing this by mistake, please let us know.” Android’s Facebook application came up with this warning: “Something went wrong”. Your post failed. The action attempted has been deemed abusive or is otherwise disallowed.” It is not known when the barring was instituted but Dr Mahathir’s latest posting, “The Jews”, was especially searing, a commentary giving his historical perspective on how Israel transmogrified from pitied Jews emerging from the Holocaust to a monster worse than Nazis bent on killing Arabs, particularly Palestinians. The barring was detected to have to have spread across the World Wide Web and Android and IOS platforms, but users circumvented the block by copy and pasting wholesale Dr Mahathir’s latest posting, which appeared untrammelled. Since his tenure as prime minister, Dr Mahathir has come under Israel’s crosshairs as a leader who has strongly criticised the Zionist state for various atrocities against the Palestinians over the decades. In 2003, Dr Mahathir blasted Israel with this choice quote: “1.3 billion Muslims cannot be defeated by a few million Jews. There must be a way. And we can only find a way if we stop to think, to assess our weaknesses and our strength, to plan, to strategise and then to counterattack. We are actually very strong. 1.3 billion people cannot be simply wiped out. The Europeans killed six million Jews out of 12 million. But today the Jews rule this world by proxy. They survived 2,000 years of pogroms, not by hitting back but by thinking. They invented and successfully promoted socialism, communism, human rights and democracy so that persecuting them would appear to be wrong, so they may enjoy equal rights with others.” In his latest posting on Thursday, Dr Mahathir, reflecting on Israel’s invasion and bombing of Gaza that have killed 832 Palestinians so far and injured thousands, wrote: “All these things the Israelis are doing are against international law, against morality, against human rights. They are criminals in every law of the civilised world.” Dr Mahathir was scathing on his indictment of Israel, asserting that the “Israeli Jews do this with impunity”. “They have the whole of America and Europe behind them. They are the chosen people of God and they are above any laws, any moral code, any human values. When Jews were persecuted by the Nazis in Germany they sought the sympathy and support of the world. “But their sufferings have taught them nothing, have not made them understand the pain of suffering. Instead they are now behaving worse than Nazis, not caring at all for the sufferings and deaths they inflict upon others. “The Europeans and the Americans created this monster and they care not for the atrocities committed by it. They will continue to support Israel even if the Israelis commit genocide and kill all the Arabs. This is their way to atone for all their treatment of the Jews in the past. The Jews should really be venting their spite on the Germans and other Europeans. But they are too smart. Killing Arabs is easier and more fun.” Like all critics of Israel, Dr Mahathir has faced a barrage of counter-criticism from pro-Israeli apologists and the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) aimed at anyone who questions Israel’s attack on Gaza or on any issues that shines a negative light on Israel. In recent years, this concerted barrage of pro-Israel counter-criticism was dubbed the “Israel Lobby”, a controversial book by John Mearsheimer, a University of Chicago professor, and Stephen Walt, a Harvard University professor, published in late August 2007. Mearsheimer and Walt postulated that a “loose coalition of individuals and organisations actively work to steer US foreign policy in a pro-Israel direction”, focusing on the lobby’s influence on US foreign policy and its negative effects on American interests. Dr Mahathir echoed the postulation by writing: “In this free world, we can accuse anyone of anything and it is tolerated because it is part of freedom of speech but the Jews may not be criticised in any way without the critic being labelled anti-Semitic. “Many European countries support this view to the extent of jailing anyone accused of being anti-Semitic. Clearly, the Jews think of themselves as special beings privileged to the point of being above condemnation or even criticism.”
