:nu:vem:ber: Day 21: MY RUIN (guest writer) Mr Wise Lynn from the kickass Hooded Eagle has been asking me for probably all 3 years now when i was gonna do My Ruin. To be honest i know next to nothing about this group (saw them once and barely paid attention), however lynn is borderline fanboy number one for this group. So for the first time in nuvember history, im turning over the reins to someone else. here we go! Every year that NüVemBrr has happened, Ive asked Mike the same question: are you going to do My Ruin? Well, damnit, its finally happening. I heard about this band through a live journal friend (remember those?) whose username was MISSxANNxTHROPYx. When I realized that the song with that title featured Jessicka from Jack Off Jill, the lake goth kid I was absolutely HAD to check it out. The vocalist for the band, Tairrie B started her music career as a protégé of none other than Eazy-E, who released her album POWER OF A WOMAN back in 1990 through Ruthless Records. After getting out of the rap game, Tairrie B moved on to a band called Manhole, who then changed their name to Tura Satana. After couple of albums, she started My Ruin with her now-husband, and theyve been going ever since. Early in their career, Tairries roots shined brightly, through a shitty rappy delivery and spoken word poetry tracks. Lynn Strait is heard introducing the band as a live intro to a studio track from their second album (which also featured the aforementioned track with Jessicka). The lyrics touched on religion, but were mostly about how Tairrie was ugly and would never be thin like a model, with lots if nü angst and free-flowing hate everywhere else. Their third album had a much more rock n roll vibe, and came out around the same time as 18Vs VANITY, so the two will forever be linked in my mind.
