nziff.co.nz/2014/auckland/notes-to-eternity/ We are very excited to be involved in this incredible, moving documentary Notes to Eternity by New Zealand film maker Sarah Cordery, which focuses on the Israel-Palestine conflict, and weaves its way back and forth between the Middle East and the US. Sarah has been working on this project for 10 years and it is a mind boggling achievement. We cant believe our luck at being invited to contribute what ended up as 14 tracks to the finished documentary, which has already screened to two full houses in Auckland at the New Zealand International Film Festival. Wellington friends, the first screening is sold out, but they are talking about putting another screening on, so watch the festival site for details. We have only seen tiny fragments of the actual film, but they were unbelievably rich and poignant, even when only viewed on a tiny screen through skype...I cried every time. We cant wait to see the actual finished work. The music we created would have been impossible without the contributions of our friends in Omaha; Megan Siebe, whose viola and cello performances as well as other instrumentation, feature strongly in the soundtrack, Kevin Donahue, who played percussion and drums, and Danny Frankel, who also made a contribution of percussion and drums on some tracks when we were finishing off in Yucca Valley; or without the assistance and vision of Simon Joyner, who when we said we might have to cancel the tour to record this stuff, immediately suggested we come to his home and stay there while doing the basic tracks with Megan and Kevin, who are in his group the Ghosts. (and Simon also features on piano on one piece!) Mike Friedman contributed his time and studio expertise recording the basic tracks. And Sara Adkisson Joyner, Tinca and Frances Joyner took great care of Rosa Pearl, taking her swimming, to the zoo, making a movie!, introducing her to some wonderful like minded 12 year olds, and generally making Omaha a must visit on any future US tour...! All of the artists and friends who contributed to this work did so free of charge, in honour of the human tragedy at the heart of the subject matter in this film. Michael Daly and Jb Johnbillows also feature in the soundtrack, via an instrumental version of the old Monsters and Miasmas track, Deep Hole, which was the song that first drew Sarah to consider our music for the project, when she heard Brian playing it on an acoustic guitar. The film will also show in Christchurch, in about 10 days, and Dunedin, but Im not sure when, as part of the NZ International Film Festival. If I hear when the Dunedin showing will be I will post here, otherwise its best to check the festival site for details. As a result of these various collaborations, with Sarah, Megan, Kevin, Danny, Simon and all we now have a new album in production, as well as the soundtrack itself. but most of all we are honoured to be able to take a part in the film itself which, from the little we have seen, is so remarkable in its depth, scope, heart and artistry.
