Scott J. Simon On the TV show the musical director Ray Charles (not the soul singer, the guy behind the Ray Charles Singers) collaborated with the members of the group to determine who sang what. The casting of the songs was something the band did for itself for the live shows from 1969-1977 that preceded the production of the TV shows.
