obviously i am completely ignorant. at most, i can observe that the (Canadian) manual entitled Police Race Relations is listed, but unavailable to access on the NCJRS website. what other resources are missing from this federal resource, then? This manual provides step-by-step guidelines on how to establish a training program in Canadian police agencies, focusing on race relations as part of a broader organizational strategy of equity and community policing. Abstract: The manual emphasizes that a strong commitment from the chief of police is essential. In addition, race relations training must be related to actual police experience and based on work-related skill development. It must also involve learning and enhancing police skills rather than just providing information. Furthermore, visible minorities should have an important role in the development, implementation, and monitoring of race relations training. The steps involved in establishing a training program are conducting a needs assessment, determining the behavioral objectives, designing the curriculum, determining the training methods, pilot testing the program, implementing the training, and monitoring and evaluating the program. Care should be used in selecting and developing the trainers. Checklists, appended additional guidelines, suggested readings, and resource list it would be helpful to know how police officers are trained to be fair and promote equality (all jokes aside) and what special training they are required to have in diverse communities, or ones that are not homogenous. anyone with resources?
