ok, so not to toot my own horn, but i feel full of pride as a result of my employment at Staples. first, day before yesterday, a co-worker nominated and entered me into a company lottery of sorts. not really sure what the prize is, but the fact that another employee thinks so highly of my work/work ethic to enter me into this drawing is awesome enough for me. secondly, yesterday, the district manager paid us a visit. now, keeping in mind that i started there like a week or two before Thanksgiving, the last time he visited, our store was unsatisfactory. i showed up to work yesterday to hear from the copy center manager that she sang my praises to him and when my store manager introduced him and I, he told the district manager that my work had a lot to do with the improvements to the appearance of the store and our positive customer relations feedback theyve been getting. i also heard that prior to my employment, we had over 10% of inventory in the warehouse that was not on shelves. we are allowed .8%. as of yesterday, our percentage had dropped to only 1.8%. now, im definitely not saying that I alone am responsible for this, but two department heads, both assistant store managers and the general manager himself have praised me constantly. out of all floor workers, I am given more hours than any other (which with my physical condition is a blessing and a curse) and with the exception of 1 or 2 people who appear threatened by my success, I have earned the respect of all other employees there. one thing I am good at is work. not one job I have ever had have I disappointed my bosses. I have stood out and excelled in every position, no matter how foreign it was to me. thanks in part to my military experience perhaps, but most of the credit goes to my dear mother, God rest her soul, who taught me this work ethic. now, if only i can get paid accordingly! will work on that in the coming months! :)
