okay..gonna step down off the soapbox, put my overalls back on, stick a corncob pipe in my mouth and gonna get back to it!!!! gonna get back to it!! gonna get..back..to...it.. hmmm..well..lessee.. nothing seems to come to mind. oh well. wait! the songs on the album are mixed and will sequence them next week and then off to mastering for both cd and vinyl..yep..vinyl.. met with brook and aaron from gypsy sun vintage and easy at threadgills south today who are doing the artwork for the album and i got to say it is going to be pretty wild and decadent and cool..since i an old cat i got to keep pushing it out there and these wild young austin artists got the imagination and the talent to bring to reality this weird idea i had for the cover.. okay. some young cat wrote me and said he wanted to play guitar like i do as he felt my style would be good for his lyrics and he wanted to be doing what i do..i was honored and was impressed with his sincerity and he seemed nice so now that the record is done and the book is being laid out, next up is a instructional video thing but first lemme say this about wanting to be a folk blues song writer guy or girl: once a cucumber becomes a pickle, it can never be a cucumber again.. once you cross over that invisible line into the dark cool groove world of Hopkins and Hooker and Muddy and the Wolf and Hubert and Son and Mance and McDowell and Tony Joe and J.J. and all the Others who came before who tore off fragments of their soul and rhymed them and laid em in down in 4/4 time..well, you can never go back to anything less..you can not listen to crap music ever again..you will be disgusted with music award tv shows..you will be embarrassed for contestants of voice game tv show..you will seek out the musicians with integrity who have chops..you will mock all the guitar holder dancers..you will recognize posers..you will appreciate and honor those who write not thinking about the future of what theyre writing and dis those having corporate publishing deals writing songs for hot country pop acts..you will gain self esteem yet the ego will diminish as you will embody humility in that you are aware of the sacrifice of those who came before..you will have to acknowledge that you may not ever make a whole bunch of money in the music business and on certain years on your income tax form you will be just above hobby status but..but..by putting forth the time and the effort to learn how to play blues guitar and not second guessing inspiration but knowing the importance of rewriting, you can wallow in the fact that you can lay down a groove and back it up with some lowdown licks and throw out some words that would make a sailor say hey cool it, theres bikers in here. yep.. its a good feeling knowing you can do that, but it comes with a price..you will have to give up something to get something..and i aint gonna tell you what that is..you have to want it no matter what the cost.. so be sure..the red pill or the blue pill..cucumber or pickle..dead thumb groove blues cat scufflin for gigs or guitar holder dancer country star.. man..did i go off or what? i didnt mean to..oh well. ivanhoe wine and music fest sat. night following the chase sanford band. yours truly, rwh
