okay so i messed up and mixed up my epilogue and prologue. well, what yall read was the PROLOGUE. and i guess to keep up with it, i want to give everyone chapter one. so here it is: [Chapter 1-Last day for exams] “Josh! It’s time to go to school,” yelled his mother from downstairs, “You don’t want to be late for your Christmas exams.” I never really was a morning person. But school is important, so I always force myself to get up early, whether I want to or not. Of course, as you well know, my name is Josh. Josh Perish. I’m 5’11”, Caucasian, and around average body size. Not too skinny, but not too fat. I’m 17 years old. I have brown, beiber-ish hair and I have green eyes. I’m in the eleventh grade and don’t plan on dropping out. I was raised out in the country lands of Idaho by my mother. Not much to do out here except farm or work on cars. I got my first car last year, spending my savings money for anything I could afford. I now drive a Ford Taurus. It’s a fixer-upper, but reliable. People say I would be like a human-sized journal. My meaning for that is I help others with their problems, but I’ve never told anyone mine. I only trust a hand-select of people with my personal life. My reasons for this are: my trust is very hard to earn. I can usually tell if someone is either twisted in the heart or good-willed. My last reason is like the old saying. “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.” You break my trust once, it’s hard to get back what you used to have. Break it a second time, you’ll never have my trust again. I rolled out of bed, feeling more exhausted than ever. Mom is my second alarm clock. I usually turn my phone alarm on at night, so I can wake up at six. I guess I forgot to do that, since I was cramming for my Christmas exams last night. I pulled on my clothes and rushed downstairs. I began to scarf down my food, kiss my mom on the cheek, and rush out the door. I fumbled around in my pocket for my car keys, when suddenly I heard some muffled, soft banging in my neighbors backyard. “Bang bang bang.” At first I stiffened, wondering what it could be. My neighbor never really was home. I don’t know what he did for a living, but for all I know, he could have been some kind of scientist doing weird research on some animals or worse, humans. After what seemed like several minutes, which it was only a few seconds, I decided that it might be their dog, Cece. I jumped into my car and headed for school. I drove into the parking lot of my school, Nightingale High. Our school was widely known around Idaho for its undefeated record in football. Our football team, the Nightingale Shades, has the offensive skills of an NFL team and an even better defensive skill set. Our school is even more known by our academics. Nightingale High was named as one of the top high schools in the nation. When I got out of my car, I was bombarded by Jeff, Austin, and Quin. These guys were my brothers. Not by blood, but by friendship. Remember my reasons on the whole trust thing? Well, for my second reason, I have only been wrong once in my entire life. With this person, I thought he was a bad individual, but turned out to be a pretty great guy. Last year, Quin and I fought for what we thought was a huge ordeal over who got to score the last point at the nation’s Elite Physics and History Student’s Competition in the tournament finals. We began pushing each other and butting heads. Eventually, someone in our group separated us while our third teammate finished the competition. We lost that tournament and we both hung our heads. Knowledge was the one thing that we had in common at the time. We decided to give our apologies, and a real brotherhood was put together. Ever since then, we would find more and more things that we had in common. One of the things we found out was that our birthdays were three days apart. Months later, Austin joined our ranks as a brother, followed by Jeff. Quin coolly said, “Josh, what’s up man?” “Nothing much man. Just trying to keep on the up and up,” I replied out of habit, “Hey, guys. Ya’ll ready for these final Christmas exams?” As if on unison, all three guys say, “Nah!” We began to walk to the main doors of school, when this car pulled out in front of us. “HEY! Watch it,” yelled Jeff! “People these days. You never know what’s going to happen,” commented Quin. Austin replied, “Who cares?! Let’s go inside and finish these blasted exams.” Thats the end of chapter one.
