quentinwbuetow.blogspot/ [OBSERVATION] Life can change in the blink of an eye. For some of us, this can (and often is) a major source of stress, but for others, this uncertainty as well as the strong emotions that come with it, are merely one drop of water in a raging river. Whether they realize it or not, the latter have adopted Zen into their everyday experience. Zen is most often associated with Buddhism, but stands alone in its application and execution. It is an alliance - a marriage - of concentration, contemplation, and stillness that can release stress and worry. It brings inner peace, but does not turn away from pain. Zen is a means of re-examining ideas about yourself, your ideals, your beliefs, your desires, and your relationship with the world in such a way as to separate your sense of satisfaction and dissatisfaction from situations you cannot control. In practicing Zen, there is no reality outside of what exists from moment to moment. Everything beyond the moment in front of you ceases to exist. It is no longer relevant. Once Zen is truly understood and properly practiced, you will find that Zen acknowledges that all states of emotion - good, bad, ugly, and indifferent - are impermanent. Like the drop of rain water falling into a river, each moment is carried away with the current. Freeing yourself from old hurts opens up a whole new world untainted by assumption or unreasonable expectation. Each day will be unlike the one that came before it. The Zen mind is also aware that being and doing are intertwined and interconnected. The mind and body ... the outside and inside ... are all one. Because Zen emphasizes the impermanence of all things, every facet of ones life can be affected by embracing it. Ones ideas of fulfillment change, as does how one views ones career and relationships with others. It is a natural guard against disappointment and stress, the fear of failure, and worry. In order to effectively adapt Zen into your own life, it is best to begin by knowing thyself, living in the moment, taking time to simply exist, and to avoid attachments to possessions. To thine ownself be true ... always. When you do that, you can - and will - find balance, inner peace, and serenity.
