really interesting conversation i had last night with someone who is reading a book called , growing patterns which makes the connection between the Fibonacci sequence and its frequency in natural growth patterns. I had posted this image previously speaking about its occurrence. The approximate logarithmic spirals also are found FREQUENTLY in art ...keeps the balance...I love LOVE painting water and this is one of the many reasons... I spoke of how i have found this natural spiral in most of the water works i have done and how when it is truly balanced the viewers eye moves in a slightly similar spiral pattern. It is definitely a commutative property: When my work is balanced i see this symmetry and when i try for this symmetry the work is balanced. My mind is actually quite mathematically based and obviously when you spend hours upon hours painting something photo-realistically you notice every nuance within the reflection/wave. On a side note:it is also very difficult to have the center of a work the focal point. With the spiral balance the viewers eye move smoothly throughout the work and the colors balance. **definitely caught this guy off guard last night...hehe
