(report from a local birder) This a.m. at Hatfield, TWO Peregrine Falcons and one Prairie Falcon kept the shorebirds moving. There was quite a show initially with a Prairie Falcon and several Ravens battling over air space, very fun to watch the aerobatic show. At the back pond there was one Peregrine Falcon, a Northern Harrier en route to the back pond, and on our return to the front pond, TWO Peregrines appearing to battle over territory, then the Prairie came to join the fun. Needless to say, the shorebirds spent a lot of time flying and relocating. Shorebirds - LB Dowitchers, Pectoral Sandpipers ( 5 of them), a Western SP and a 8 or so Leasts. Number of American Pipits is increasing on the drying edges, maybe 20 or more of them. There is water going into the first pond now so in a few days the shorebird habitat may start to change but for now, the tules along the inlet have insects and a few warblers. There was a big flock of Mountain Bluebirds down in the brush where the dike roads intersect, near the chain link fenced square. And Pinyon Jays were loud and active between front and back pond. The flock was larger than a family group so they may already be getting into their large fall/winter flocks
