rivertoncity/mayor.monthly.html As we have just celebrated Labor Day, it usually means the end of summer fun for most of us. I hope you have had a great summer and that it has been a very fun and safe summer, producing many happy memories. As fall is approaching quickly, I would like to let you know what is going on in Riverton. In addition to our monthly newsletter we are improving our electronic communication in the following ways: • Many more tweets from Riverton City’s Twitter site are being sent. You can receive all of the latest information from us when you sign up on Twitter by following @RivertonCity. • Watch for the new Riverton City Facebook page that will be launched in September. • Go to our website rivertoncity often and stay up-to-date on what is happening in Riverton. • Continued improvements in our electronic communication over the next year. What’s Up In Riverton? This traditional event will be held on Saturday, September 20, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the park behind City Hall. Please drop by my booth and I will answer any questions you have and give you a red wristband that says, “Riverton City Celebrates 150 years in 2015”. During 2015, Riverton City will have more than 150 days of celebration for our 150 Year Birthday Party. Thanks to all the volunteers who are working on these events. Watch for: A new cookbook prepared by Councilman Paul Wayman and his committee. It is titled, “Taste of Tradition—Celebrating 150 Years of Riverton Heritage”. A sesquicentennial historical picture book looking back on 150 years of life in Riverton City. Thanks to City Historian Joy Johnson and many volunteers, this new book will contain some pictures that have never been shown to the public before. It will be a treasure that everyone will want. The renovation of the main park will be completed in October or November of 2014, in preparation for our 150 year celebration. However, we will keep the park closed until June of 2015 so the lawn can become established in preparation for our July third and fourth Town Days Celebration in 2015, where we expect 12 – 15 thousand people to be in attendance. The continued renovation of downtown Riverton with new homes, and commercial developments. In our downtown renovation we are trying very hard to tie the historic past with the exciting future. You will see the continued use of red brick and architectural influences from the past such as the Old Dome Meeting Hall. Our City Historian Joy Johnson is also gathering pictures and artifacts that are important to the history of Riverton. These items will be displayed in special cases in the corridors of Rivterton City Hall. Special productions from the Riverton City Arts Council. In addition to all of the festivities, it is a time for all of us to clean up our own properties. There will be many opportunities for service projects for us to take part in during 2015. HAPPY BIRTHDAY RIVERTON! We are honoring the past while creating our own history for the future. God bless our wonderful city, and may we continue to receive the blessings of our motto: Peace, Progress, and Tradition.
